French-Swiss mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti was born in Lausanne on April 30, 1986.
Daughter of conductor Marcello Viotti and violinist Marie-Laurence Bret, she
grew up in a family of musicians, with her father's professional postings in
Lorraine and Lyon. After learning the transverse flute, she became interested in
jazz, gospel and metal, before turning to opera singing, which she studied in
Vienna, Austria, with Heidi Brunner, then in Lausanne with Brigitte Balleys and
