Born in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 1995, rapper Romai Tesfaldet is better known as Mairo. Of Eritrean and Indian descent through his parents, he began rapping in his early teens and changed his pseudonym several times, first under the name R-Karah until 2012, then under his first name during his time with the group La Contrebande, and finally Mairo.
