Del Amitri
Starting out as swooning indie outsiders who supported The Smiths and
self-financed their own tours, Del Amitri developed a cleaner, radio-friendly
soft rock sound that made them one of Scotland's most successful bands of the
late 1980s and early 1990s. Led by Glasgow school friends Justin Currie (vocals,
bass) and Iain Harvie (guitar), the group took the jangly melodies of the 1960s
guitar bands, added new wave edge and folky storytelling and built a keen
following when second album Waking Hours (1989) reached Number 6 in the British
