Malaysian soft rock moguls Alleycats formed in Penang in 1969 and built up a
local following before picking up steam nationally during the late 1970s. The
band – originally co-founded by brothers David Arumugam (vocals) and Loganathan
Arumugam (vocals) along with a group of Penang-based musicians including bassist
Frank Ong, drummer Tan Chin Hock and saxophonist Chester Anthony Passerella –
began amassing TV appearances and live performances, including a residency at
